This advanced 5-day wheel throwing pottery course is designed for experienced potters who are ready to take on more challenging techniques and explore larger forms. The course will cover advanced forms with a focus on scale and creativity, offering plenty of opportunities to refine your skills.


What You'll Learn:

Day 1: Cylindrical Forms

  • Begin with advanced cylindrical forms, including jug, jars and bottles. You'll refine your technique, focusing on precision and the challenges of working with these shapes.

Day 2: Bowls & Platters

  • Move on to exploring a variety of bowls and platters, with an emphasis on creating consistent, large-scale pieces. Techniques will be discussed to manage the weight and shape of larger forms.

Day 3: Self-Directed Practice

  • This day is dedicated to your own exploration, with guidance from the tutor. You'll have the opportunity to work on forms of your choice, pushing your creative and technical boundaries.

Day 4-5: Decorating Techniques, Pulled Handles & Trimming

  • The final two days will focus on playing with different decorating techniques, adding pulled handles, and perfecting your trimming skills. You'll have the chance to experiment with surface design and finishing touches that bring your work to life.


This course provides a platform for advanced potters to explore new techniques, create larger forms, and engage in creative experimentation. Whether you're looking to refine specific skills or experiment with new ideas, this course offers the ideal environment for artistic growth.

All materials and tools are provided. At the end of the course you will be able to have one larger piece or two smaller pieces fired in the Driving Creek production facilities. You can take all greenware with you.

Extra pieces can be fired for an additional cost plus postage, to be discussed with the tutor during the course.
