This workshop is ideal for anyone looking to expand their ceramic practice.The course introduces participants to the unique properties of paper clay and the exciting ways it can stretch conventional ceramic techniques.

What you'll learn:


Introduction and Inspiration:
Begin with an overview of paper clay’s possibilities—how it challenges and builds upon traditional ceramic rules to unlock new forms of expression.

How to Make Paper Clay:
Learn what ingredients are needed and how to mix your own paper clay—from pourable slips to hand-buildable clay bodies. Gain the confidence to make it at home using recycled materials.

New Techniques with Paper Clay:
Watch demonstrations using slabs, coils, slip, and mould-supported surfaces. Try joining clay in unconventional ways, experiment with working wet-to-dry, or even joining bisque-fired elements with wet clay. Expect lots of hands-on testing and playful experimentation.

Health and Safety:
Understand the importance of safe working practices when using paper clay, from proper ventilation when firing to preventing black mould and managing clay dust.

By the end of the weekend, you'll leave with a refreshed perspective, new sculptural techniques, and the confidence to continue exploring the fascinating world of paper clay on your own.
