This intensive production throwing course is designed for potters who want to enhance their speed and accuracy, with special focus on the simple mug—an essential product for any production potter. The skills you develop in this course are transferable to other pottery forms, making it a valuable addition to your pottery practice. 

Each teaching session will run from 10:00am to 4:00pm, with day 1 starting at 9:30am to give more time to introduce you to the space, tutor and others on the course.


What You'll Learn:

● Day 1-2: Speed and Accuracy Exercises

Begin with exercises that are specifically designed to increase your speed and accuracy on the wheel. You'll practice creating consistent shapes quickly, laying the groundwork for efficient production pottery.

● Day 3: Mug Design & Aesthetics

Design a mug with guidance from the tutor. You'll discuss aesthetics and form, learning to create a mug that is both functional and visually appealing.

● Day 4: Making a Set of Mugs

Focus on producing a complete set of mugs, with an emphasis on maintaining consistency across each piece. This day will help you refine your technique for creating identical forms in a production setting.

● Day 5: Pulled Handles

The final day will be dedicated to mastering pulled handles. You'll learn how to pull and attach handles that are both comfortable to use and aesthetically harmonious with the mug.


Course Instructor: This course is taught by a member of Driving Creek's production team, providing you with expert guidance from a professional experienced in high-volume pottery production.

By the end of this course, you'll be equipped to produce high-quality mugs quickly and accurately, with techniques that you can apply to a range of other pottery forms.

All tools and materials are provided. At the end of the course you will be able to pick four mugs to be glazed and fired in the Driving Creek production facility. You can take any greenware with you.
